Course Description: Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD's), sometimes called an “oral myofunctional disorder" and “tongue thrust," are disorders of the face, mouth, lips, or jaw. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly,  breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth & development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial aesthetics, and more. Insufficient airway and obstructed nasal breathing play an important role in the development of these disorders. OMD's can and do develop across the lifespan.

 Participants Will Learn:
• Anatomy and physiology of the head and neck
• Dental occlusion and classifications
• Dental measurements and treatment planning
• Phases of swallow process
• Types of ankyloglossia and its effects
• Atypical muscular patterns and TMD
• Variances of orofacial resting postures
• Proper airway and tongue resting postures
• Comprehensive orofacial assessment methods
• Therapeutic techniques to correct OMDs
• Habit elimination theory and techniques

Mary Billings

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST & CERTIFIED OROFACIAL MYOLOGIST

Mary is the  founder and owner of Billings Speech Pathology Services, a private practice established in 1994. She is the immediate past president of the IAOM, a member of the Board of Directors for the Oral Motor Institute (OMI), an active member of the American Academy of Private Practitioners for Speech Pathology & Audiology (AAPPSPA) as well as a member of the Missouri Sleep Medicine Association.  Her private practice has serviced hundreds of individuals with this disorder over the years. Mary shares a very knowledgeable, supportive, and enthusiastic educational program with her students.
Dianah Davidson

REGISTERED DENTAL HYGIENIST CERTIFIED OROFACIAL MYOLOGIST

Dianah is an active member with the IAOM 

and currently serves as an advisor to the Non-Profit Governance Committee for the IAOM. She is a founding member of the Midwest Organization for the Studies of Orofacial Myology Advancement (MOSOMA) and serves as its Treasurer. Dianah is an active and valued member of the Interface Advanced Lightweight Functional (ALF) orthodontic study group, as well as the Missouri Sleep Medicine Association..  Working collaboratively with Mary Billings, Dianah has offered many courses and internships throughout North America. She shares her true love and extensive experience in the treatment of individuals with orofacial myofunctional disorders.

REQUIREMENTS
Registration for this course is only open to Speech-language Pathologists, Registered Dental Hygienists, and Dentists with a current state license or its equivalent. All participants will be required to provide a copy of licensure prior to completion of registration.

We educate professionals with a comprehensive and instructive course focused on the proper diagnosis of OMD's and their effective treatment.
Accreditation
This is a IAOM approved program for education in orofacial myology and offers 2.8 ASHA CEU's and/or 28 AGD and IAOM CEU's.
Networks
Build a professioanl collaborative network with other course graduates and through Creative Dental Connections referral system.

International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) is designated as approved PACE Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry.  The formal continuing education programs of the program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship, Mastership, and membership maintenance credit.  Approval does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board of dentistry or AGD endorsement.  The current term of approval extends from Oct 2015-2019.  IAOM ID# 218851
